Ok wow...alot has changed in the last week or so.

the subaru robin 6.5 motor just kept having issues. I checked the oil and there were significant chunks of metal. I haven't pulled it apart, but i assume something inside it let go. The kids were super dissapointed.

so what does dad of the year do?

i ran down to harbor freight and purchased a predator 212cc 6.5 horse engine. I got the new one with the hemi head. This was last night.

today i ordered a few parts for the new engine. I will list them later.

spent the evening today with the kiddo's pulling the motor and cleaning everything really good. I haven't told them about the mods for the new motor yet. We have the kart all ready for the new engine to be installed.

mods ordered for the predator:
mikuni 22mm race carbeurater
Billet aluminum intake manifold
custom venturi intake
KPN filter
custom 3 stage race header
arc billet lightweight flywheel
custom mikuni throttle cable
Tomorrow we will remove the governor.

I think it will be quite peppy when done

That's awesome, nothing like working on a project with the kids, something they will always remember when the grow up. Sorry the engine gave, look at it this way a nice way to spent time with the kids, especially when your done with it, that thing is going to fly!

Took it out for a quick test spin today.... It is a totally different kart. It will now swing the rearend like my atv.

The kids are super excited.

I did a few mor modifications today.
1. Added guards in front of the rear tires. My son had the idea and the other two kids agreed. They are actually the heel guards off of my ltz400 i just got. We also put the front grab bar / bumper from my atv.

I tuned the carb today. It really is a totally different kart now. It is loud, but seems much smoother than with the robins 6.5

I will post up some pictures soon.

Trying to figure out a better transmission setup than a torque converter. I also was looking at a snail named t15... My wife thinks i am going to ruin the kart, but i see it as a blank slate.

I would leave the kart alone and try building a better kart for yourself. I know what you mean by a blank canvas, but i would let it be and build something stronger which is what you are trying to do with that that Silverfox. Tubing is cheap, you can then add a motorcycle engine & trans. I don't think the frame on the silver fox would or is capable of such power. In the end it's your kart, just remember who will be driving it.

I know...

The hard part would be convincing my wife to let me get another kart.

My youngest daughter (5yo) wants to race karts. So maybe we will get to do something. I used to race in scca spo class, i would love the kids to get into it.

That would be another option. Get the kids involved in the sport and then hit the wifey up for a new karts "for the kids" of course :tongue1:

Ok...I ordered some blaster shocks today. Think they will work well.

I will post more pictures this weekend. I bought a new tube today that i will change out. I also need to buy a new rear rim as i believe that it is bent.

Is it more likely the rim or the axle that is bent?

Sooooo...

My daughter was driving when the passenger side spindle broke.

I ordered some custom rugged ones today. I have also narrowed down the rear wobble to the rear axle.

The kart is much faster than before, and the kids love it.

That's not good! I feel the axle would bend first on a kart. Working at a tire shop, we normally bend wheels unless it's a serious hit. While driving look at the rear end to see if anything is wobbling.
