Red Talon build

Postby shake this » Mon Jan 03, 2011 5:10 pm

Picked up two go karts and started the restoration on the first one for my 8 year old daughter. It's going to be a slow process with everything else I've got going on but should be a blast once we finish it.

The frame after tearing down the roll cage and seat. It's pretty nasty but after a good power wash it's not that bad now. I Will strip the paint off and give it a fresh coat for the winter.

The motor was pretty nasty

but cleaned up nicely and as of last week, it was running once again.
Now that I know the engine is ok, I'll spend some more time cleaning upt the top end.

As of the end of last week, teardown is 100% complete and ready to be moved to my brother's shop for sanding and painting. Still trying to decide on a color but thinking purple and green.

Thought I would give a quick update after a very long and frustrating weekend. As I'm sure everyone knows, keeping a build on schedule is no easy task. Well as easy as mine was going, it didn't take long to hit a major snag.

My goal this past weekend was to get the frame painted so it could have about a week to cure before reassemble. Nerveless mother nature, a poorly insulated shop and the worse cold front of the season had something to say about it. Laying down paint in 22 deg temps with winds as high as 50 mph is not going to turn out favorable. However, not all is lost, my brother was able to call in a few favors and the frame is now at an auto paint shop being sprayed “plum crazy” in a very cozy down draft paint booth.

Back on schedule again thanks to some very helpful people.

It does happen, I'm on a snag with my modification with the Mini monster truck, my garage has no heat, my arms are not doing to well to continue the modification. So it will sit on the table till i can get back to it. I usually don't keep a schedule due to unforeseen circumstances that are always popping up. I'm glad your back on schedule, keep us posted.

We installed the roll bars late in the day but I didn't take any pictures. The roll bars are painted the same green as the rest of the parts. I'm going back out next Saturday to do some touch up and clean everything up and will have final pictures then.

Yeah…I stopped keeping track on what I was spending on it and just went with the satisfaction that you can’t buy the kind of excitement and happiness that my daughter has. I went out back the other evening when I got off work and she was just sitting in it with this big smile on her face. It trully is priceless
