I am a Newbie

Postby ToddHanson » Sat Nov 11, 2006 9:05 am

I have placed some posts in other areas.

My name is Todd Hanson. My son and I each bought used Manco Dingo karts in June of 2004. Well, I bought them. He hasn't spent a dime of his own money on them, but that is another story.

They were kind of worn, and somewhat bent, but they run well and the oil stays remarkably clean, given that we drive around in the dirt at times.

I have watched portions of OFK's videos. OFK - You claim to be drifting on your blacktop trail, but it looks more like weaving to me.

To drift, don't you need to slide?

I am 39. My first car was a 1968 Mercury Cougar XR7 with a 302 CID V8. Something of a small block muscle car. Back in the Stone Ages, Cougars were the luxury version of the Mustang. I also owned a used 1982 Firebird V6, a new Eagle Talon (which was very poorly made), and since 1997, I have owned a Saturn SC1.

Cars are fun, but very expensive, and very dangerous. Some of you might be waiting to get on the road, but I firmly believe you can have a lot more fun with your karts. It is much safer, too, as long as you are wearing your helmets, which I hope you do.

Reading this forum at work makes me want to get out and race around like a wildman on a go kart.

Oh, I brought up my age and car history because I am not really familiar with tuner cars, drifting, etc., which are most popular today. But I am aware of these things.

After my son flipped his kart over, and later hit a telephone pole and bent up the frame on MY kart, we installed a 5 point racing harness from my cousin's stock car. The three point belts which come with the karts really are not adequate. Safety is important, as it ensures you can drive again another day.

I will add pictures and things to my profie some day.

Enough from me!

your not going to get completley sideways in a manco. Plus, that was a "first attempt" of sliding.

Plus thats my PA driveway, not a trail.

you mean in the blade video?

Hehe, that was fun. If i have time, ill pull that clip out and post it up here.

This weekend ill do some slides and jumps in the manco and get it on tape. Since the blade is still out of commission.

OK, ORK, just giving you a little bit of a hard time. I was expecting some wild drifting and there you are weaving on blacktop.

Doyou have an area that you can rip up?

I realize that if you do donuts in your lawn, you may be leaving home sooner than planned.

Have you been able to do anything particularily fun in the snow. We have yet to drive our karts in the snow.

Sounds pretty scary.

I am glad that you have the drifting thing down in your KART.

Yes, and that is not a good idea, but again, I am 39, so my perspective is a little different.

I like karts because I feel comfortable doing things in the kart that I would not feel comfortable, as an adult, doing in my car.

Autocross is a safe place to do more with a car, as are drag strips, race tracks, go kart race tracks, etc.

Streets really are for SAFE transportation and nothing more.
That is all I am trying to say.
