Dino will not start

I have a 2001 Dinli Dino I bought used. I have never used the remote with the bike, but lately having problems with battery and replaced it and now it will not start. I think the probelm is with this remote unit. Can it be removed? If so, a little insight on how to do it. When I remove the plug and ground it to the frame, I see a little spark. It does not sound however like it is firing. I have tried with the remote unit unplugged(no red light) and with it plugged in (red light on) and cranking sounds the same. Any help would be appreciated.

I checked my paperwork and the Dinli is a 2003. I didn't know if that mattered.

try changing the coil. and check for short's in the circut.
